Thanks for the kind words; I've actually started to migrate away from the Hard News, Inc. blog, because it's stuck on Typepad, and I don't have as much control over the design & interface as I'd like. I'm working more over at http://www.sipsfromthefirehose.com

Every Friday, I try to post a round-up of the best viral videos of the week - let me know if you run across anything that tickles your fancy, and that you'd like to see me feature.

Manu,

Especially in the area of foreign news coverage by U.S.-based journalists, backpack journalism is a rather compelling alternative. Conventional media just don't have the muscle or the will anymore to send traditional teams abroad to cover important events or issues.

So, although technology and the Internet have had a negative impact on some, they have opened many new doors to others. They've democratized the field.

Good luck in your new endeavors.

Best,

Bill Gentile

Who is contributing and why is a great question. UGC is still it's infancy, it's still playtime on leading sites like Facebook and Bebo.

Down the line though we think UGC will shape future markets and market dynamics, especially in 'considered purchase' markets - think of niche markets like mountain biking, trekking, amateur photography.

The contributors in this arena will be the passionate, the enthusiast, the independent retailers and the users - sharing advice, knowledge, opinion and experience on things they have a common interest in and creating new forms of communication between users, brands and retailers.
