Serena Carpenter of Arizona State University presented her paper “U.S. Online Citizen Journalism and Online Newspaper Articles: A Content Analysis of Source Diversity”.

Some of her findings included:
Citizen journalists and blogs that cover geographic areas rarely rely on outside traditional media sources.

Citizen journalist websites do not fix the gap between male and female sources like the one found in daily newspapers.

“There needs to be more research done in this area,” Carpenter said. “Online daily newspapers do a better job at source diversity though.”
